Excess Wear and Tear

A nick here, a scratch there...

During a vehicle’s life, some wear and tear is expected and considered normal. The following information summarizes the most common wear and tear items and gives you an idea of what GM Financial considers normal use. Using the following information, along with a Wear-and-Tear Card, you can review your vehicle’s condition. This information should help you identify any items that may be considered excess wear and tear and result in charges.

Exterior

Normal

Normal ding damage
  • Fewer than 4 dings (less than 2.5cm) per panel

Excess

Excess ding damage
  • Panel dents or dings 2.5cm in diameter or greater, or that have penetrated or cracked the paint or surface

Normal

Normal scratch damage
  • 1 dent or 2 scratches (less than 10cm) per panel

Excess

Excess scratch damage
  • Panel scratches that have penetrated or cracked the paint surface

Normal

Normal glass damage
  • Chips (including legs) less than 1cm in diameter

Excess

Excess glass damage
  • Chips (including legs) equal to or greater than 1cm in diameter

Interior

Normal

Normal stain damage
  • Any removable stains

Excess

Excess stain damage
  • Permanent stains

Normal

Normal burn damage
  • No burn holes on seats or carpet

Excess

Excess burn damage
  • Any interior burn holes, cuts, or tears

Normal

Mechanical item damage
  • All mechanical items functional

Excess

Missing equipment damage
  • Any malfunctioning or non-operational equipment

Miscellaneous

Normal

Normal miscellaneous damage
  • No missing equipment or broken parts
  • Any replacement part that meets manufacturer's specifications of equal quality and design

Excess

Excess miscellaneous damage
  • Any missing equipment or broken parts
  • Any replacement part that does not meet manufacturers specifications of equal quality and design

Wheels & Tires

Normal

Normal wheel damage
  • Tread depth greater than 3mm at the shallowest point
  • Tires must match manufacturer's recommendation guidelines
  • The two tires on each axle match in type and brand name
  • Original manufacturer wheels

Excess

Excess wheel damage
  • Tread depth equal to or less than 3mm at the shallowest point
  • Tires have gouges, cuts or sidewall plugs. Wheels with scratches.
  • Mismatched tire size. The two tires on each axle do not match in type and brand name.
